While the Arlaud clan is most famously known for their 100% organic red Burgundy lineup, this delicious and very rare white Burgundy comes from an old family vineyard that sits more than 1,200 feet above sea level, practically the limit for the Hautes-Cotes. Such a perch means serious freshness and cut in Burgundian Chardonnay, with the added benefit of pure limestone soils—just like the Cote d’Or. Crushed stones, spring water and dried wildflowers mixes with fresh pears and quince on the expressive nose; the mouth is silky and bright, very fresh and pure, with plenty of energy and pep. Yet the juicy personality of 2009 come through with lots of yellow fruits and candied citrus on the mouth—very delectable and perfectly balanced. Very limited; less than six barrels made for the world.
A very special blanc from Domaine Arlaud
9.26.2011
We’ve done a lot of table-pounding over the incredible quality and value to be found in the Hautes-Cotes vineyards in Burgundy—but leave it to one of our favorite Cotes de Nuits producers blow our minds with this singular bottle. This pure and lively white Burgundy is a stunning wine, with so much personality and flavor that you just might mistake it for a village Meursault—and it’s the first ever white Burgundy we’ve imported from the very extraordinary Domaine Arlaud of Morey-St.-Denis.

Arlaud Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
One of the more complex and complete Bonnes Mares we’ve ever tasted. The nose is expressively floral, with lots of spice and riper notes. The mouth delivers layers of blue and black fruits, alternating with deeper cassis notes and highlights of ginger.

Arlaud Bourgogne Rouge Roncevie Vieilles Vignes 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
The insider’s terroir find and always a favorite, on flavor and on value. The secret of “Roncevie” is that it’s surrounded by Gevrey village vineyards; it outperforms on every level and should never, ever be considered a “simple” Bourgogne rouge. Tremendously expressive and long in 2009, the wine’s aromas mix smoky cherries and candied roses. The mouth is sweet and harmonious, with purple and red fruits, candied oranges and suggestions of pepper and lavender. A knock-out and always a must-have.

Arlaud Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Sentiers 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
Not far from grand cru Bonnes Mares, “Sentiers” is always a deeper, more black-fruited cru. Very limited in 2009; just four barrels produced. An aromatic blend of red and black fruits dusted with white pepper shows on the nose. Dark cherry jam and silky notes of blackberry mousse show on the mouth; the main sensations here are of layered meringue and juicy concentration. Outstanding.

Arlaud Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
A sensational wine every vintage; the Arlauds combine the best fruit from a handful of Chambolle plots to craft one of the most expressive and honest snapshots of Chambolle’s violet character. Lavender and blueberries mix on the palate, with grippy yet silky tannins and good structure.

Arlaud Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
A fuller, rounder Clos de la Roche with ample structure and spice. This is one of the Arlauds’ most poised, structured grand crus yet in 2009 it’s wrapped in an extra layer of rich Pinot fruit. Aromas are very peppery, with notes of spring thyme and licorice; the mouth is full and juicy, with blackberries, succulent cherries and more peppery spices.

Arlaud Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
Outstanding in 2009 and a treasure for the cellar. More earthy notes in the nose, with smoky licorice and black fruits; flavors are velvety yet concentrated, with plenty of saturated, juicy red/blackberries and lots of baking spices. An incredibly promising wine.
