“Roncevie” is truly an insider Burgundy secret and a top value for those in the know. The vineyard sits surrounded by Gevrey village vineyards, and neighbors grand cru Mazoyeres-Chambertin. Imagine the spring-sweet flavors of cold cherry soup and wild strawberries, brightened by a hint of lemon zest. The nose is floral and fresh, with suggestions of lavender and a good shake of black pepper. Aromas are unmistakably Chambolle-inspired, with spring blossoms and purple fruits. Always a blockbuster and a wine that delivers far above its “simple” status.

2008 Domaine Arlaud red Burgundy
3.25.2010
We were very, very selective (even more so than usual) in 2008, as only
the best of the best up and down the Côte d’Or made red Burgundy for the
ages. It goes without saying that Arlaud for years has been among those
ranks. We tasted some of the most harmonious, most complex and
certainly the easiest to love wines of the vintage right here—pure Pinot
fruit, persistent aromas, and a character and complexity of flavor that
is both terroir-resonant and unmistakably Arlaud.

Arlaud Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Sentiers 2009

Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
Not far from grand cru Bonnes Mares, “Sentiers” is always a deeper, more black-fruited cru. Very limited in 2009; just four barrels produced. An aromatic blend of red and black fruits dusted with white pepper shows on the nose. Dark cherry jam and silky notes of blackberry mousse show on the mouth; the main sensations here are of layered meringue and juicy concentration. Outstanding.

A fuller, rounder Clos de la Roche with ample structure and spice. This is one of the Arlauds’ most poised, structured grand crus yet in 2009 it’s wrapped in an extra layer of rich Pinot fruit. Aromas are very peppery, with notes of spring thyme and licorice; the mouth is full and juicy, with blackberries, succulent cherries and more peppery spices.
