“Verchère” has a little something for everyone; those looking for
mineral energy will get it in spades, while those looking for a little
something more in the middle will be doubly pleased with its juicy
curves. Sitting just below “Crays,” one of the warmest vineyards in
Vergisson, “Verchère” still retains a good dose of minerality to keep
everything balanced. Wonderfully enticing.
2008 Daniel Barraud white Burgundy
5.3.2010
If you are looking for the finest in Vergisson (if not in the greater
world of white Burgundy) chez Barraud is the place you'll find it. The
2008 vintage at this micro-production, organic estate couldn't be more
pleasurable—we've taken to calling it white Burgundy with the works and a
cherry on top, as just you think what's in the glass couldn't get any
better, it up and does.

Mâconnais-Burgundy
In the heart of Vergisson, the “En France” vineyard combines limestone and clay soils for a wine that displays both great concentration and mineral precision. “A pretty blend of both white and yellow orchard fruit aromas trimmed in a hint of pain grillé leads to rich, supple and quite generous medium-bodied flavors that are delicious...In sum, this is solid...” — Burghound

Barraud St. Veran En Creches 2009
France
/
Mâconnais-Burgundy
“En Crèches” sits close to the legendary “La Roche” vineyard in Pouilly-Fuissé, and if it was any more electric you could jump-start your car off it. “...citrus and white orchard fruit notes, both of which can also be found on the focused, intense and fleshy medium-bodied flavors that also possess particularly good vivacity in the context of the vintage. This should be quite good.” — Burghound

Barraud St. Veran En Pommard 2009
France
/
Mâconnais-Burgundy
“...medium weight flavors are even richer, more concentrated and brimming with dry extract that buffers the solid acid spine and citrusy finish. This is certainly opulent but not at all heavy or clumsy and should be excellent with just a few years in bottle.” — Burghound

The insider's white Burgundy; always outperforms. Gorgeous lemon-butter notes with a bit of fresh mixed nuts on the nose; the mouth reminds of Puligny, with its fresh, herbal and lemony character. Wonderfully cut and precise, with an added layer of candied citrus...

“...the lemon and orange peel notes to add nuance to the elegant and
airy white flower aromas that gracefully introduce rich and citrusy
flavors that possess ample minerality on the complex and quite finely
detailed finish. This is impressive and fashioned in a notably refined
style.
