We never have enough of this wine. For us, this is the best value in Bourgogne Blanc you can find—it always over-performs and is worth stashing in the cellar, too. In 2008 it’s a knock-out, yet again—aromas remind of fresh ginger and lemon rind, with a hint of butter and a whiff of white pepper. The mouth is savory and long, with a suggestion of red fruits—always a sure sign of complexity and nobility in a white wine. Meyer lemon, firm mango, crushed stones; wonderful complexity and simply a full, satisfying mouthful of white Burgundy for a song.

Boyer-Martenot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret 2011
France
/
Côte de Beaune-Burgundy
Vincent Boyer is an anomaly—a hard-working, hands-in-the-soil grower focused on quality in an appellation where other growers have grown lazy, recruiting enologists and coasting on Meursault’s reputation. Domaine Boyer-Martenot is an estate where the wine in the bottle lives up to its noble appellation.
