A gorgeously fresh and persistent Barbera with classic smoke and earth on the nose, a bright floral profile and lots of spicy energy on the finish. The Stupino family purchased the famed “Santo Stefano” vineyard before it was planted to vines; it is one of Barbaresco’s most hallowed terroirs and to experience Barbera from such impressive real estate is a treat, indeed. Fresh summer blackberries, a touch of tar and earthy spice on the nose; the mouth is richly endowed yet wonderfully balanced, graceful and agile with plenty of spice and mineral notes. A beautiful wine with staying power; yet we love Barbera when it is youthful and vibrant—enjoy it today or cellar for three to five years.
A unique Barbera from famous Barbaresco terroir!
9.22.2011
This full-bodied and spicy Barbera from one of Barbaresco’s most famous vineyards has to be our finest Italian insider’s discovery of the vintage. Castello di Neive purchased the famed “Santo Stefano” vineyard before it was even planted to vines, and today, through their hard work, it has become the most sought-after terroir in Piedmont for Barbaresco.
Yet for those of you who know well just how exceptional and elegant Barbera can be when it’s treated with all the pomp and circumstance as its Piedmontese neighbor Nebbiolo, this singular bottle is a very exciting find. Only a miniscule amount of this delicious Barbera is made every vintage; we have just a few cases to spare. A unique bottle and one that couldn’t be more pleasurable.
