Our partners at Cerrillos are at the forefront of the young organic winemaking movement in Chile.
Turning away from long-standing traditions of mass and mechanical cultivation, Cerrillos seeks to encourage what Chile is already preternaturally capable of—the production of organic wines. This practice ensures that viticulture is not unnaturally manipulated, allowing the vine to reach its full potential naturally. Cerrillos seeks to strike a balance between the demands of agriculture and the stewardship of the soil—in using natural composts and beneficial crops, as just a few examples. Chile's temperate weather, suitable soils and generally healthy vineyards all add up to wines of great expression and purity.
Led by Alvaro Espinoza and Juan-Carlos Faundez, two of Chile's leading winemaker/enologists, Cerrillos represents a rich selection of Chile's finest organic vineyards up and down the Chilean coastline. From the Limarí Valley near Ovalle, where the fog lies thickly in the mornings, to the sun-kissed Rapel Valley where Chile's signature grape, Carmenere, thrives, each 100% organically raised wine speaks volumes about the terroir from which it hails.
In each region, our grower partners adhere to the strict principles of certified organic cultivation, harvesting all wines by hand and vinifing our selections as gently and as naturally as possible.
