The secret to Château Micalet is what’s not on the label. St.-Julien is home to grand names such as Gruaud-Larose, Leoville-Les-Cases and Leoville-Barton. The Fèdieu family told us that when the appellation was created, Chateau Micalet and much of the village of Cussac (located between St. Julien and Margaux) was a signature away from being included.

Yet not all the village lived up to the quality expected of a St. Julien—and instead of offending half the town, the authorities decided to cut Cussac out entirely. So Chateau Micalet, at least on the label, is a “cru artisan” from the Haut-Medoc. But now you know better.

For our exclusive selections, the Fèdieus allow us to choose our favorite barrels out of the domaine’s entire cellar, and then bottles as few as 75 cases to import exclusively, unfined and unfiltered.
