The estate's top cuvee and always a knockout—in 2009 "Papet" delivers plenty of flesh and concentration on the palate yet remains balanced and lively. A blend of 75% very-old-vine Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, aged in foudre and demi-muid. "Dark ruby/plum-colored, with an intriguing nose of smoked herbs and jus de viande interwoven with licorice, pepper, black currants, raspberry and kirsch, this wine is full-bodied yet fresh, with an underlying minerality and lots of plumpness/corpulence. This rich, concentrated wine should age nicely for 10-15 years."—The Wine Advocate
2009 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee du Papet
7.28.2011
“Cuvee
du Papet” is Mont-Olivet’s top cuvee from its oldest Grenache vines, and
produced only in the finest of vintages. 2009 is probably one of the
more expressive and concentrated vintages of at least the past decade.
And Clos du Mont-Olivet for generations has been one of Châteauneuf’s
leading estates, crafting gorgeous blends that are both achingly
beautiful and very long-lived—with the immortal “Papet” at the very top
of the list. To sum, 2009 “Papet” is our top Rhone selection for the cellar and a must-have for every serious collector. Very, very limited.

Clos du Mont-Olivet Côtes du Rhône Serre de Catin 2009
France
/
Rhône Valley
This gorgeously opulent wine has to be one of the more seductive of the vintage. "This is a beauty, with loads of framboise, kirsch, lavender, and licorice. It is medium-bodied, has unbelievable character and personality already, and because of its precociousness and emerging complexity, will be best drunk over the next 3-4 years."—The Wine Advocate

Clos du Mont-Olivet Côtes du Rhône Varene 2009
France

Rhône Valley
Another beautiful Côtes du Rhône and a steal of a deal for its very high quality. Peppery cherry notes mix with plums and bitter chocolate on the nose. A mouthful of ripe, concentrated black fruits, lined with licorice and mocca notes, is gorgeously saturated and very delicious. A blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache; aged in demi-muid and foudre.
