We selected a total of 13 older barrels for this, our "Cuvee Unique"—this is a wine that bowls you over with its abundant aromatics, its complexity and freshness on the palate and its staying power. A pure, rich ruby in the glass, the wine's aromas suggest incense and warm sandalwood, with notes of espresso and a hint of grilled apricot. Textured and silky, flavors deliver savory black fruits, pepper and soy sauce. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre and 4% Cinsault aged in Mont-Olivet's traditional casks and foudre.
2009 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape
3.17.2011
We tasted some of the finest wines of the 2009 vintage—no small thing to say in a year with many, many excellent wines—in the petite family cellars of the Sabon family in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Their 2009 Châteauneuf is an impeccable wine, a beauty that again proves that this estate stole the soul of Châteauneuf ages ago and unveils it only in the finest years—of which 2009 is certainly one. Don't get caught thinking, "What if?"

Clos du Mont-Olivet Côtes du Rhône Serre de Catin 2009
France
/
Rhône Valley
This gorgeously opulent wine has to be one of the more seductive of the vintage. "This is a beauty, with loads of framboise, kirsch, lavender, and licorice. It is medium-bodied, has unbelievable character and personality already, and because of its precociousness and emerging complexity, will be best drunk over the next 3-4 years."—The Wine Advocate

Clos du Mont-Olivet Côtes du Rhône Varene 2009
France
/
Rhône Valley
Another beautiful Côtes du Rhône and a steal of a deal for its very high quality. Peppery cherry notes mix with plums and bitter chocolate on the nose. A mouthful of ripe, concentrated black fruits, lined with licorice and mocca notes, is gorgeously saturated and very delicious. A blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache; aged in demi-muid and foudre.
