A new vineyard for the Delarche family, and a white Burgundy that is far too easy to love. This vineyard (35+ year old vines) touches premier cru “Sous Fretille,” in the village proper; the terroir is identical. Abundantly aromatic, with white flowers and crushed chalk on the nose. The mouth shows lacy and pure, with notes of fresh lemons and more chalk, with a savory middle of pear butter. The wine’s mineral profile is not to be denied—lively and chiseled, the chalky energy here runs from perfume to finish. Impressive depth but not at all heavy; a very lovely wine that approaches premier cru quality.

Delarche Corton Le Corton Grand Cru 2010
France
/
Côte de Beaune-Burgundy
Impressive structure and depth, with a precision and poise in both aroma and flavor. There’s so many layers here to discover—the nose today is reticent but gives hints of licorice, stones and earth above a deep layer of red fruits. The minerality here is impressive, from nose to finish. Flavors of red berries, white peaches and baking spices are revealed on the mouth.

Delarche Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2010
France
/
Côte de Beaune-Burgundy
The family’s few older vines in this noble grand cru sit at the top of the slope, and deliver fruit that is well-balanced and complex, with a stony, high-altitude edge. This is a gorgeous wine, with a reserved, brooding nose of smoke and citrus; silky and weighty on the palate, with more citrus and peach. Easily decades ahead of it.

Delarche Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses 2010
France
/
Côte de Beaune-Burgundy
This beautiful premier cru is packed with minerals, chocolate, white flowers and a good measure of sappy and pure Pinot fruit. What especially impressed us was its bottomless juicy core—lots of concentration but not weight, which makes it a serious pleasure to drink. The effortless balance of stony notes and spices is a nod to the family’s impressive vineyard terroir.

Côte de Beaune-Burgundy
Poise and penetrating flavors—a very grand Le Corton that is less brooding than Renardes but shares a level of complexity and depth that will no doubt take delicious years to reveal. A more subdued yet effortlessly elegant Corton, somewhat Chambolle in its personality—not to be missed.
