Alain Robert's self-proclaimed mission as a winemaker is to capture the
noble traditions of Champagne in every bottle. The pinnacle of his
efforts is in his two wines, “Tradition” and “Reserve,” which are always
vintage wines and 100% grand cru Chardonnay. Champagne history
runs in the family—Robert's father was also a winemaker, while Robert's
father-in-law managed the historic “Clos du Mesnil” vineyard, owned by
Krug. Robert blends the modern day with Champagne traditions
effortlessly—he still uses an older, wooden vertical press to gently
extract only the finest juice from his Chardonnay grapes, and ferments
his wine in special small barrels, for the utmost in complexity and
character.
