A flood of aromas meets the nose of this well-structured yet effortlessly approachable southern red: the unmistakable notes of garrigue, wood spice, black olives, cassis and blackberry jam. The mouth is silky and textured, providing a serious mouthful of flavor that doesn't seem to quit.
Grapes for “Montagne Noir,” or black mountain, from Faugères are grown exclusively on hillsides with poor schist soils, which are very mineral; the topsoil is black, thus the inspiration for the vineyard's name. A blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre.
