Zip and zest and a deliriously saturated mouthful of pure citrus and white fruit—this lively, diamond-cut white Burgundy is for us the value wine of 2008, and one that is a serious no-brainer given its outstanding quality. The noble herbal notes of Puligny come through clear on the aromatic nose; ripe lemons and crushed stones blend with a touch of cardamom and lime zest. The mouth is ripe and round with just enough cut to lift the palate and refresh the soul—suggestions of tarragon butter, white pepper and more lime zest make for wonderfully food-friendly drinking. All tank made; a white Burgundy that couldn’t be fresher or more lively on the tongue. A great value; our favorite for 2008!
2008 Domaine Perraud white Burgundy
The result of top-notch winemaking in the Mâconnais, our favorite source
for white Burgundy of a caliber and quality that often matches (if not
surpasses) what you’ll find from the Côte d’Or (but are much poorer for
it.) What’s especially exciting about 2008 is that this is a year
of impeccable balance—wines are ripe and round but in no way heavy—rich
fruit with an electric lining, lively and dancing on the tongue. It’s a
perfect food wine, given this balance, and it’s also too good of a
value to pass up.
