One of the finest and most complex Sauvignon Blanc wines we’ve tasted in a while, and the great tragedy is there just so little of it. A freak hailstorm early in the year wiped out nearly 2/3 of the Vacheron’s straight Sancerre; yet what Mother Nature allowed to linger couldn’t be more tear-inspiringly perfect. Chalk dust, white pepper, pear skins and poached fruits mix on the angular and fresh nose. The mouth is creamy yet lively, with wonderful texture and depth. A hint of pine nuts mixes with savory, fresh fruit; we even got a hint of raspberries in the back of the mouth, a serious sign of complexity in a white wine. Calling any wine “perfect” is bold but this one fits the bill. Very limited!
