The combination of this vineyard's very old vines and stony, mineral terroir makes "Feusselottes" not only a must-have in 2009 (given its extra layer of ripe fruit) but also an ideal wine for the cellar. A textbook Chambolle with power and finesse. " Smoky aromas of plum, currant, menthol, mocha and game…Best today on the more shapely finish, which features good, minerally lift, a saline element and finer, more horizontal tannins…"—Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
2009 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or
5.25.2011
Wines from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or in 2009 across the board show
remarkable minerality, as well as tremendous complexity and balance,
qualities that of course we've come to expect with this historic
estate.
Yet the added boost of an exceptional vintage, not to mention
winemaker Patrick Landanger's savvy addition of new, storied terroirs from Chambolle and
Morey, have resulted in a very impressive, yet also very limited,
collection of wines that are more than memorable.
Fans of Pousse d'Or may be well aware that Landanger purchased a number of vineyards from the Moine-Hudelot estate
back in 2007 to add to his Côte de Beaune properties. And what better
vintage to unveil his new labors than with 2009! This collection
includes a very limited selection of premier cru wines from
Chambolle-Musigny as well as Chambolle grand cru Bonnes Mares and grand
cru Clos de la Roche from Morey-St.-Denis.
As is always the case with wines from this very sought-after estate, we
can count the number of cases we have on two hands -- each bottle is a
treasure to be savored and certainly cellared. Yet given the wonderful
saturation and flavorful power of the 2009 vintage, these wines too are
showing incredibly well today, with their youthful, juicy fruit and
silky tannins. We wish everyone could indulge in the pleasure that is
Pousse in 2009, but the reality is there's just not enough wine to go
around.

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
Opulent, refined and very expressive—another limited, impressive selection and a stunning older-vine grand cru with decades ahead of it. "Deep red-ruby. Highly expressive, site-specific aromas of blackberry, licorice, mint, dried herbs and underbrush. Boasts excellent flavor intensity and a distinctly primary character, with the crushed blackberry flavors conveying an impression of strong energy. This very long, saline wine has excellent grip without coming off as hard."—Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
A gorgeous premier cru with a lacy texture and penetrating Pinot fruit aromas. "Charmes" when young delivers bright red fruits (strawberries and pomegranate) yet with age picks up more sensual, earthy tones. "Deep ruby-red. Wild but subdued aromas of kirsch, violet and underbrush. Fat, broad, rich and sweet…Finishes with dusty tannins and a lingering note of licorice."—Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Groseilles 2009
France
/
Côte de Nuits-Burgundy
A delicious berry salad on the nose and palate ("groseilles" are currants; it's uncanny how the wine's aromas reflect the vineyard name!) and plenty of silky texture and supple fruit. "Aromas of crushed cherry and licorice show some very ripe qualities but are nicely lifted by a peppery element. Juicy, spicy and nicely delineated, with good cut but only moderate density to the dark fruit and pepper flavors."—Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
