“Les Crays” is always one of Vergisson’s most seductive, sensual white Burgundies; winemaker Michel Rey however has reined in all the excess and given a bit more definition to this cru’s usually ample curves. Amazingly pure and cut with plenty of stuffing to please. One single barrel selected; bottled unfined and unfiltered. A wave of white and yellow fruit explodes from the glass, rich summer peaches and early autumn pears, with touches of honey and roasted hazelnuts in its aromas. It’s the mineral expression here that is so dazzling—each sultry sip is bolstered and made brighter by Vergisson’s classic chalky terroir. That Rey was able to capture the perfect “Crays” shouldn’t be surprising—this estate is an up-and-comer and 2009 represents some of the finest wines of his career to date. A must-have!
2009 Eve and Michel Rey white Burgundy
11.8.2010
It’s time we introduced you properly to one of the more promising
domains in Vergisson. Michel and Eve Rey have for years been hiding
some serious treasure in their itsy-bitsy cellar on the slopes of the
rock of Vergisson—wines that are equal to the quality
we’ve come to expect from our many top-notch Vergisson partners, such as
Roger Lassarat and Daniel Barraud. Yet the Reys operate so far under
the radar (and produce so little wine) that much of the wine world just
hasn’t caught on.
Until now. We’re putting the Reys in the same league with the Lassarats
and Barrauds of the Mâconnais for a reason—what you’ll find in this
mini-family domaine is extraordinary white Burgundy made with a skill
and passion expressed only by the top of the top. From the soil to the
cellar Michel and Eve do everything by hand, and it’s just the two of
them—such diligence and dedication is what makes these bottles so
special. We do not say this lightly—the Reys have assembled two of the
finest white Burgundies of their class in 2009, and there’s no question
that these bottles are made and selected in such micro-quantities as to
be virtually gone before they make it out the door.

Eve et Michel Rey Macon-Vergisson La Roche 2010
France
/
Mâconnais-Burgundy
This wine is our favorite “La Roche”—it goes without saying that this vineyard is the insider’s secret source for white Burgundy value. From the family's older-vine holdings on the slope of Vergisson; bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aromas of crushed stones, herbs and lemons blend with yellow flowers on the pure nose; the mouth reminds immediately of the noble cut and poise of a Puligny. Lacy and pure; flavors of lemon rind blend with classic terroir notes of chalk and smoke. Really a sensational wine and a top value, too.

Mâconnais-Burgundy
This pure limestone vineyard on the north face of the rock of Solutre is known for its concentration and its edge; medium-bodied with a gorgeous silky texture, it delivers sweet white fruit and citrus pep simultaneously. Aromas remind of spring wildflowers and crisp white fruits; supple and refreshing with lots of pears, white peaches and Meyer lemons on the palate.

Eve et Michel Rey Juliénas "Les Pacquelets" Très Vieille Vigne 2009
France
/
Beaujolais
A mix of Burgundian spices and truffles blends with raspberries and blueberries a la Chambertin on the aromatic, expressive nose. Endlessly juicy and richly structured, with notes of milk chocolate with cream underneath a festival of black raspberries, cherries and purple plums on the saturated mouth. Notes of fresh ginger, black pepper and more baking spices appear on the long finish. Very complex, stunningly stacked and packed...
