A noble Champagne with the body of a red wine, almost chewy and very complex. A peachy blush in the glass reveals delicate bubbles. Wildflowers and strawberries on the nose; wild cherries wrapped in tender, buttery pie crust. Luscious and elegant.
“Light, amber-tinged red; nothing pink about this. Deep cherry and dark
berry aromas are initially brooding, then open slowly to offer spicy
blood orange and violet qualities. Fleshy, lightly sweet blackberry and
candied cherry flavors stain the palate and are complicated by floral
pastille and bitter chocolate notes. A singular, fascinating Champagne
that could handle rich red meat dishes or the richest, funkiest cheeses
with ease. This has more depth and power than many red Burgundies. ” —

Jean Vesselle Champagne, Bouzy
11.10.2009
This family estate is more than 300 years old and has continued the
local traditions of producing rich, layered and captivating Champagne
based on Pinot Noir grapes. While these wines are structured
(similar to dry red wine), they show a silky lightness on the tongue
that makes them instantly captivating. Winemaker Delphine
Vesselle, daughter of Jean, represents the next artisan generation in
Champagne—trained abroad, she artfully has blended the region’s
traditions with modern winemaking sensibilities.
