This licorice-coated Côtes du Rhône is dynamic and chock-full of serious flavor, representing a selection of declassified fruit from the estate vineyard, “Haut Coustias” (which is 100% Cairanne). A rainbow of peppery spice shows on the nose, with hints of chocolate and black fruits. The mouth is supple yet chiseled, with good weight and plenty of rich and ripe, red and black fruits. What always comes across with every wine from L’Oratoire Saint-Martin is the energy—you won’t find a purer, more vibrant blend of southern Rhone grapes anywhere, each sip chock-full of fresh fruit and a lively freshness.
2008 L’Oratoire Saint-Martin Côtes du Rhône
3.4.2010
The 2008 L’Oratoire Saint-Martin is just that—a great Côtes du Rhône. It
is a Cairanne cru wine in everything but name. The Alary brothers, two
of the top artisans in Cairanne (if not in the southern Rhône), treat
this wine like royalty, and such care and character is palatable in
every sip. What’s more, it’s 100% organic from field to cellar—a pure
draught of southern Rhône supple fruit and endless spice.
