The Durdilly family has recently split their vineyard holdings; Pierre (the younger brother of Paul, of “La Chassagne”) has staked his claim with his son Guillaume, 23, on a piece of extraordinary land in Moulin a Vent. Here ‘gryphees,’ or seashell fossils, dominate the soils—the mineral content and character of these remarkable soils are what gives this cuvee its structure and endless freshness. While many Moulin à Vent cuvees are often muscular, this gem from 2009 straddles the delicious line between dense, deep fruit and dazzling freshness—it’s a much more fruit-forward Moulin, with a little something for everyone. Cherry syrup, black raspberries and a generous shake of black pepper are the flavors you’ll find here—and excitingly this is one Moulin à Vent that you won’ t have to wait 20 years to enjoy.
2009 Beaujolais: The finest since 1947!
6.2.2010
From the moment we hit the ground in Beaujolais we knew this was the big one. Sure, we’ve visited these caves for decades; we’ve tasted some extraordinary wines. But these wines were different. There were no furrowed brows, no thoughtful pauses as we tried to put what we were experiencing to words.
Have you ever seen serious professionals break down and dance a jig in a cellar? The 2009 vintage robbed us of speech and set our imaginations on fire. We could not believe how luscious the wines were—chock-full of creamy
fruit, each sip a pillow of crème fraiche and ripe, savory summer
berries, liquid and luscious and pure. Spoon-licking good. Forget the
guests at the table and finish the bottle yourself good.
We had never tasted Beaujolais so expressive, so
aromatically captivating, so down-right delicious. Say what you want
about the fickleness of taste, but we can hands-down guarantee that
Beaujolais in 2009 will be loved by just about everyone with a pulse and
an empty glass—pure pleasure has never been so easy to obtain.

Les Gryphees Moulin à Vent 2010
France
/
Beaujolais
A pretty, silky wine with delicate, subtle aromas that remind of wildflowers, warm earth and plum skins. The mouth is full and fresh, with lovely and balanced flavors of savory red cherries in liqueur, pomegranate jam, spiced plums. Tannins are fine and offer balanced structure, and the finish is uplifting and spicy. Lots of complexity and soul here.

"There’s a pretty floral overtone to this expressive red, with shadings of chocolate pudding mixing with black cherry, fig paste, smoke and anise. Lightly chewy, with a fresh, juicy vibrancy. Drink now through 2016."--The Wine Spectator
