You have never had a Ventoux rouge as concentrated and complex as this one, simply because no other domaine in the region is as diligent and serious as Martinelle is. Saturated black fruits and baking spices, with cinnamon and licorice at the fore, dominate the nose; the mouth is velvety and deep, with poached cherries and plums, blackberry jam and lots of black pepper. Rich and ripe with good balance and grip. A serious, supple southern red blend (primarily Grenache and Syrah, with amounts of young Mourvèdre and Cincault) with impressive staying power. Fermented and aged in 100% cement tank.

Martinelle Beaumes de Venise Rouge 2009
France
/
Rhône Valley
A blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah, vinified completely in cement tank; unfined and unfiltered. The nose is heady and rich, with black pepper and plum skins, a hint of meat char and lots of black fruit aromas. Well-balanced yet very supple and plush; flavors suggest blackberries and olallieberries, lots of baking spices and a hint of iron tang on the finish. This is a big wine with a solid profile, and one that deserves to be poured with the best of the southern Rhone.
