Aromas combine jasmine and oyster shells, with plenty of lemon and lime zest. Very floral and expressive. The mouth is precise yet fuller and more savory than 2008, with a perfect balance between white, ripe fruits and mineral energy. There’s a little bit of Indiana Jones in wine importing, putting on that adventurer’s hat and following paths seldom tread. (OK, we usually like to daydream this on days when there’s more paperwork to do than tasting.) But it’s certainly true that vinous treasure-trove offered by the ancient wine center of Saint-Pourçain would make any thirsty archeologist proud. Wines from Saint-Pourçain, like a city at the crossroads of ancient trading routes, have a little something for everyone and truly represent the best of all worlds.
