This is hands-down the finest red from this ancient wine region, and is a dead-ringer for Bourgogne rouge given its spicy personality and juicy middle. Especially in 2009 this shows even more stuffing, with the characteristic creaminess we’ve seen in so many excellent reds from this vintage. A blend of 80% Gamay and 20% Pinot Noir, from the Nebout family’s finest, most rocky vineyards. Violets mix with cherries, plums and cassis on the expressive nose (a bit of Chambolle floral notes here), while the mouth is fresh, precise and very supple, with berry pie, purple flowers, plums skins and a hint of lavender.

Nebout St. Pourcain Blanc Le Tressallier de Gravieres 2010
France
/
Loire Valley
The Tressallier grape is native to Saint-Pourçain, and few other dry white wines deliver such invigorating bite, such bracing freshness. Aromas combine wild jasmine, sea spray and oyster shells, with plenty of lemon and lime zest. The mouth is precise and cut, with lots of minerals and zesty energy, and is very floral and expressive.
