A special selection of older-vine fruit harvested later than the estate's regular Trebbiano bottling. This extra attention results in a silky, lushly aromatic white with plenty of refreshing acidic spark. Melons and lychee show on the nose, while juicy layers of candied grapefruit and honeysuckle dominate the mouth. Pure and precise, with a vein of mineral energy running throughout. Very beautiful.
Nicodemi: The best of Abruzzo
12.10.2009
Few places in the world combine fine wine and fair prices as
effortlessly as does Nicodemi—we cannot think of one, single vintage
when this family estate wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Energetic, rich
and electric—these are wines that deliver pleasure a hundred times over.
Each sip delivers a serious buzz of self-satisfied contentment that
comes on hard when you find a wine that, to spare the hyperbole, is
simply really, really good.

This is pure Montepulciano grinning ear to ear, with the full sun of central Italy to warm it and the refreshing wind from the Adriatic in its sails. Blackberries and blueberries mix with a hint of baking spices and pepper on the nose. The full-bodied yet very fresh and lacy mouth drinks like silk and echoes the nose’s sultry blueberry refrain. Soft tannins but a strong personality; exactly what we want on the table with a lively crowd, good music and lots of food.

Nicodemi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cerasuolo Rosé 2009
Italy
/
Abruzzo
Nicodemi, hands-down, is one of the most dynamic and exciting estates in Abruzzo—and their rosato year in and year out is one of our favorites (as well as one that has received serious critical acclaim). “Cerasuolo” refers to the wine's deep blush, which is called “cirasce” in the Abruzzo dialect, meaning cherry-colored.

Nicodemi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2007
Italy
/
Abruzzo
While we savored the 2006 to the very last drop, the 2007 shows itself with even more concentration and inky, powerful black fruit. Touches of licorice and pepper show on the intensely black-fruited nose; the mouth shows incredible balance and poise, considering just how rich and savory it is. A must-have.

A beautiful, complex wine that showcases the soul and sheer marrow of the true Montepulciano, in all its earthy elegance and concentration.
