Bracing and refreshing—Fie Gris delivers all the delightful and racy mineral energy one finds in the best Sauvignon Blanc with a flavorful complexity that even the top wines can only hope to match. Winemaker Jacky Preys’ vines are ancient—some as old as 100 years—and produce but a handful of fruit each vintage. This is a wine you take time with, as its kaleidoscope aromas and flavors are almost too many to count. Wildflowers, tarragon, white peaches and tomatillos make an appearance on the aromatic nose, with hints of kaffir lime and sea salt. Flavors on the mouth suggest a citrus salad with more sea salt, hints of lush white fruits and lots of chiseled, chalky precision. Juicy yet well-defined with every sip, Fie Gris does not disappoint. All tank made; very rare.
2008 Preys Fie Gris

in the world was nearly forgotten in the fashionable rush to produce
its more-famous progeny. But Fie Gris was not to be completely
forgotten.

"Light, bright yellow. Laid-back aromas of lemon rind, green apple and
smoke, with an exotic suggestion of green cardamom. Light-bodied,
slightly bitter citrus and apple skin flavors are complicated by notes
of tarragon and fresh bay. Most wines with strong herbal character are
high-pitched but this is deep and brooding. Pretty serious wine, with no
easy sweetness and good finishing breadth. The relatively rare fie gris
variety, which is native to the Loire, is suspected by many locals to
be the "mother" of sauvignon blanc." -- Stephen Tanzer's Interntional Wine Cellar
