Winemaker: Roger Lassarat
To understand why white Burgundy from Roger Lassarat is some of the best you can find in the Mâconnais, stand just outside his cellar door and take a look around.
The first thing you see is the picturesque town of Vergisson, the heart of the Mâconnais and the epicenter for its top vineyards. The second is the “rock” of Vergisson, a towering cliff of ancient limestone, which looms directly behind his home and feeds the region’s vines with an undiluted cocktail of mineral energy. Put these two together and what you find in our selections suddenly seems less miracle, and more delicious fate.
Winemaker Roger Lassarat is certainly a kindred spirit. When we agree, the world is at piece and birds sing; when we don't, the fur flies. This is why our selections chez Lassarat are so much fun. For ever barrel we champion, Lassarat has another he thinks equally worthy. The battle rages until we all agree. Keep in mind that the beneficiary of this creative conflict is you!
For more than 20 years we've visited this petite hamlet and been dazzled at the quality and quaffability of white Burgundy from Vergisson. Lassarat, not only as one of the region's finest producers but also the town's mayor, is a perfect representative of why this region is so great. These wines have the potential to take on the best from any Chardonnay region, from California to the Côte d'Or.
There is simply no better way to celebrate the beautiful character of wines from Mâcon and Pouilly-Fuissé than through our selection of Lassarat single-vineyard wines.
