It’s easy to get carried away by the sheer beauty of Nerello Mascalese vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna, but what makes this native island grape truly stick in the minds and souls of wine lovers is its incredible, multifaceted flavors. A bit of Nebbiolo’s elegant perfumes, a touch of Pinot Noir’s spice and grace; yet the whole package is utterly unique and one that deserves long nights of contemplation. Aromas remind of rose petals, sarsaparilla, licorice and cinnamon. The mouth shows good structure with silky tannins, lots of bold black and red fruits, with great freshness and lift. From 50-year-old vines grown at more than 2,100 feet above sea level on the pitch-black soils of Etna; aged for one year in French oak barrels and an additional two years in bottle before release.
