white Burgundy—and a well-aged Sancerre is a pleasure that no serious
cellar should be without. This new single-vineyard Sancerre from Domaine
Vacheron is a wine for which we wish we could speed up time. Steely and
pure today, with a rich core of white fruit and chalky essence, “Guigne
Chèvres” is completely organic/biodynamic and only a handful of cases
were produced in 2010, a year of very low yields yet extraordinary wine.

2010 Saint Pourçain Blanc

What in the world is Tressallier? Possibly one of France’s oldest, rarest and most vibrant white wines, and one of her best-kept secrets, too. This bracing mineral white belongs on the table of those who love cut Loire whites and textbook Chablis (not to mention fresh seafood).
This is one bottle that will surprise, dazzle and perhaps confound even the more schooled wine lover, as Tressallier is ridiculously rare and cultivated only in the small region of Saint-Pourçain in rural south-central France. This 2010 is bone dry and vibrant, with a whiplash of citrus flavor on the palate and super-refreshing all around.

2006 Macarico Aglianico del Vulture Macarí

Botte, or perhaps be a bit mad (or think the surface of the moon is a
homey place) to tough it out in the volcanic vineyards of Basilicata in
southern Italy—or, like us, be so enamored of the potential of Aglianico
on these pitch-black slopes that no challenge is too great to keep you
away. Rino’s 2006 “Macari” is unapologetically robust and richly
endowed, with good grip and loads of pep, a red wine with the bravado of
southern Italy and just enough manners to invite over with relatives.
