Corino Barolo: Silky Nebbiolo from La Morra
2.1.2013
Rarely will you find Barolo with the silky texture of Corino wines. Once you taste through this selection of wines from different Corino vineyards on the hillsides of the renowned village of La Morra, more tannic versions of Barolo will seem rough in comparison.

In the Langhe hills in Piedmont, some people believe that "structured" (rich and tannic) wines are the true Barolo, while others feel that "elegant" (smooth and floral) wines are instead the real thing -- but no one argues about which of three most influential Barolo-producing hilltop villages gives birth to which.

Castiglione Falletto, a village on one hilltop, offers "structured" wines; La Morra to the west is "elegant," and Monforte combines both styles.

Corino wines are your path to discovering La Morra. We're offering a special sampler pack of Corino wines, from Langhe Nebbiolo to single-vineyard Barolo for a discounted price; call us 1-800-266-6585 for more information. Also a number of bottles from earlier vintages of Corino Barolo are available.

To order, call 1-800-266-6585 Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT, or email retail@northberkeleywine.com. continue reading >>

Summer is a go -- 2011 rosés are here!
5.30.2012
The 2011 vintage is the best kind of rosé year. To a one our selections are fine, dry wines that belong at the table, with foods that complement each wine’s lively freshness and spicy, thirst-quenching finish.

Great rosé should be full-flavored, chock-full of red summer fruit with good cut and balance, not to mention refreshingly low alcohol...and that’s what you’ll find here.

Our selections from the Loire Valley in 2011 are especially not to be missed—each bottle offers a broad sweep of juicy, ripe fruit yet is deliciously bone dry. Let us put together a mixed case for you to start the summer season!  continue reading >>

2010 Magnien Cotes de Nuits-Villages "Croix Violette"
5.20.2012
Violet aromas, the taste of summer-ripened blackberries—Fred Magnien’s “Croix Viollette” is the heart of what pure Burgundy should be. This perfect bottle from the 2010 vintage is one of those wines that is not only exceptional and reliable every vintage, but also a wine that will immediately welcome those unsure of how or where to start their discovery in the often confusing world of Burgundian terroir. continue reading >>

2010 Bouard-Bonnefoy Chassagne Montrachet
4.10.2012
bouard bonnefoy
“The 2010s…are my kind of white Burgundies: fresh, pure and minerally, with high-pitched fruit, floral and herbal notes along with intriguing saline soil tones; it's a vintage of wines that clearly express their terroir.”
—Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

The energy and purity of these wines from Chassagne-Montrachet did more to convince us of the peerless quality of 2010 than any other village in the Côte de Beaune. This is regal white Burgundy with pep and poise, Chassagne at its most elegant—and few families have such a rich selection of terroir as does Bouard-Bonnefoy.

We were completely taken with these wines because their aromas are so invigorating and expressive; because the fruit in the glass is so clear and sonorous; because the length, texture and persistence of each sip reminds us just why Chassagne is so treasured not only for the clout of Montrachet but also for the sheer pleasure that each bottle delivers.

We’ve selected what we feel were the most expressive wines of the vintage—and there is no question that in the few years we’ve been with this estate 2010 is some of the finest wines we’ve enjoyed. All very rare; quantities limited to the single barrel for each cru. continue reading >>

2010 Delarche red Burgundy
4.2.2012
Pernand-Vergelesses sits in the shadow of the noble and historic hill of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. This location says volumes about the wines one finds here. Reds are stately and ripe, with a hint of earth and autumn on the nose and palate. Yet what should attract the student of Burgundian terroir is the wines’ purity, a vibrant ruby core that seems to glow from within—and this characteristic that is especially captivating in 2010.

The following selections we chose especially for you, and are very limited—most to the single barrel. A great addition to the serious cellar, developing into constant companions after five, to seven, to 10 years and beyond with the grand crus. continue reading >>

2010 Domaine des Braves Regnie (Beaujolais)
10.26.2011
In 2010 winemaker Paul Cinquin’s creation is an effortlessly graceful wine, with plush fruit and perfume and plenty of freshness in between—a more terroir-driven wine than 2009, but equally ripe and pleasing, with a delicious silky texture in the mouth and lots of spice. continue reading >>

2010 Jean-Luc Dubois Burgundy
10.10.2011
There are few Burgundy lineups as moving, as ruggedly attractive and as pleasing as our selections from winemaker Jean-Luc Dubois.  The 2010 vintage here couldn’t be more complete—flavors are ripe and well-defined, acid is balanced and aromas wonderfully expressive and pure.

There is no mistaking that 2010 is a vintage of pure Pinot fruit and terroir expression, and Jean-Luc’s excellent vineyards are in full voice, delivering spice, energetic flavors and serious length. Wines are fermented in cement and aged in a mix of new and older barrels. Always a top selection for both terroir purity and Burgundy value. continue reading >>
