2009 Domaine la Bouissiere Gigondas "Font de Tonin"
10.20.2011
One of the most impressive and certainly most powerful wines of the 2009 vintage in the southern Rhone is the impeccable Gigondas “Font de Tonin” from Domaine la Bouissiere. As the estate’s top cuvee, “Tonin” hails from the appellation’s highest altitude vineyard and as such is a valuable lesson in the touch of terroir to tame a richly endowed vintage into one both elegant and seductive.

“Tonin” is a wine that belongs in a cool cellar, as it ages in step with the best and will continue to evolve for years to come. We’ve opened bottles with five, 10 to even 15 years of cellar age and to a one we’ve been floored by the youth, the spice and the complexity of this wine. For us it is one of the top bottles of the southern Rhone! continue reading >>

2009 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape
3.17.2011
We tasted some of the finest wines of the 2009 vintage—no small thing to say in a year with many, many excellent wines—in the petite family cellars of the Sabon family in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  Their 2009 Châteauneuf is an impeccable wine, a beauty that again proves that this estate stole the soul of Châteauneuf ages ago and unveils it only in the finest years—of which 2009 is certainly one. Richly structured yet full of finesse, with its signature aromatics of sandalwood and baking spices, our special selection in 2009 is very limited—yields in 2009 were low which means this is one Châteauneuf that not every cellar will have the chance to claim.  Don't get caught thinking, "What if?" continue reading >>

2009 Raphet Clos Vougeot: Our choice for the cellar
1.20.2011
If we had to pick just one bottle to sock away for 15+ years—one bottle that's as close to a sure thing as we've ever come across—it would be our limited selection of Gerard Raphet's 2009 Clos Vougeot. We opened a 1993 Raphet Clos Vougeot at our holiday party and were blown away—graceful, earthy and pure, it was the wine of the evening.  We are convinced that this 2009 has even more potential than that glorious 1993—and we truly feel that Raphet's 2009s are some of the most exquisite young wines we've ever had from this family estate.  Bottom line: if you are serious about fine Burgundy then this grand cru is one extraordinary bottle that you need to have in your cellar. continue reading >>
