2004 Parr Selections

California terroir, French spirit

Both an award-winning sommelier and palate extraordinaire, Rajat Parr has assembled a collection of terroir-driven, impressive California wines that blend the innovative passion of the “new world” with France's noble traditions.

Pulled from some of the most well-regarded vineyards in California, Parr Selections are handpicked, unique cuvées that are impressively complex, fruit-forward and ideally balanced to pair with food. Parr has won numerous awards and accolades for his unparalleled selection of world-class wines for Michael Mina restaurant in San Francisco, an impressive, exhaustive list that highlights his love for classic Burgundy and Rhône wines. Which is why the following selections are so exciting—not only does Parr Selections source grapes from unique, terroir-inspired vineyards, but also imagines in wine exactly what we'd want to enjoy while dining at a great table, such as Michael Mina.

Each wine varietal finds its perfect terroir home in the following selections. The 2004 Chardonnay “Sanford & Benedict” sources perfect, cooler-weather fruit from one of Santa Barbera's oldest and most renowned-vineyards—this is diamond-pure Chardonnay with the soul of white Burgundy! Equally inspired by the Côte d'Or is the 2004 Pinot Noir “Kiser,” a bountiful wine that grows on pure schist and is characterized by its elegance and finesse. The 2004 Syrah “Purisima Mountain” is sourced from 100% biodynamic grapes and is aged like a fine Côte Rôtie. Purity of flavor and fidelity to terroir is what you'll find with Parr Selections—we are very pleased to be the exclusive retailer of these fine wines, and are certain you will be as awed by them as we are. 2004 Parr Selection Chardonnay “Sanford & Benedict” Santa Rita Hills

Fruit-forward and deliciously complex, the 2004 “ Sanford & Benedict” hails from unique terroir and one of the oldest, most-renowned vineyards in the Santa Barbara region. These 30-year-old Chardonnay vines produce pure, concentrated and balanced fruit that enjoys ideal temperatures, thanks to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean and the nearby mountains. The harmony of fruit and acid here is spectacular. Aged 10 months in barrel; very fresh and precise on the finish.

2004 Parr Selection Pinot Noir “Kiser” Anderson Valley

Undoubtedly “premier cru” quality, with the concentration and finesse to remind one of a noble Nuits. This special selection from the Anderson Valley in Northern California feeds from pure schist rock, and is located in the “deep end” of the valley, where the ocean's influence keeps grapes cool, resulting in one of the longest growing seasons in the region. Layered, with stunning depth and concentration, yet completely graceful and lively on the tongue. Aged 25% in new wood.

2004 Parr Selection Syrah “Purisima Mountain” Santa Ynez Valley

A unique cuvée that immediately reminds one of the purity and elegance of Côte Rôtie. “Purisima Mountain” in southern California benefits from a limestone subsoil that is certainly a more common terroir in France, than in the Golden State. Viticulture here is 100% biodynamic, resulting in wonderfully fresh, resonant and concentrated berries; a high-altitude (some 1,250 feet above sea level) growing season means fruit can reach maturity gradually, and thus achieve better balance. Incredibly aromatic; red and black fruits are abundantly juicy and remarkably pure.
