Azienda Agricola Zuccolo

Spilimbergo | Friuli

With its vineyards in the shadows of the towering Dolomites, Friuli is the true home of the Glera grape and therefore the source of the most aromatic, vinous, elegant and true Prosecco wines.

For more than three generations, the Fantinel family of Azienda Agricola Zuccolo has championed Glera and many other local grapes on their native soils and cultivated vines from family-owned mountain vineyards, harvested by hand.

While most mass-produced Prosecco hails from the Veneto, handmade Prosecco from Friuli distinguishes itself from the very first sip. In the foothills of the Dolomites, temperatures are warm during the day yet very cool at night, which results in sparkling wines with refreshing yet balanced acidity and aromatic intensity.

What’s more, the estate’s still wines are a step above: refined, aromatically rich and flavorful, all thanks to their impeccable terroir — the mineral-rich, alluvial soils of these Alpine foothills.

FARMING & WINEMAKING

Vines are planted on mineral-rich alluvial soils in the the foothills of the Dolomites. Temperature swings here in the mountains are more extreme, with warmer days and cooler nights; this means more aromatic intensity as well as balanced acidity in the wines.

Grapes are harvested by hand and pressed directly, then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. For the estate’s sparkling wines, secondary fermentation occurs in small, 50-100HL tanks (Charmat method); more lees contact results in wines that are textured and creamy.

STILL WINES
Friuli Pinot Grigio

Not all Pinot Grigio wines are created equal; Zuccolo sets itself apart with its foothill vineyards and naturally low yields, for a Pinot Grigio of intense aroma and concentrated flavor.
