Stephen Tanzer of Vinous Media<\/a> recently wrote an excellent report on white Burgundy from the 2014 vintage<\/strong>, and since we have many of these wines now in our warehouse, we can only concur with Stephen’s positive assessment. This is a glorious vintage, one that will drink very well young (for its ripe, almost fleshy, fruit) and\u00a0because of the wines’ natural acidic balance, you can\u00a0also expect\u00a0a healthy cellar life for these gems. In short, this is a glorious year to explore some of your favorite appellations and producers. Here are some of the money quotes from the report:<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”justified” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]<\/p>\n As a vintage, the 2014 whites display a striking natural balance of fruit, flesh and acidity<\/strong>. They rarely come across as sharp because they possess strong buffering material. Some wines show noticeable extract richness or even a bit of phenolic chewiness, no doubt largely due to the thickness of the grape skins and the high skin-to-juice ratio that characterized this vintage, but the dusty, tactile finishes of the \u201814s are far more likely to reflect strong mineral extract than high alcohol or tannins.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”justified” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]<\/p>\n The wines were concentrated, expressive and balanced<\/strong> from the start, revealing wonderful transparency to soil and an often salty minerality. They show lovely freshness and purity of fruit\u2014more citrus and white stone fruits than yellow fruits or tropical elements\u2014but they\u2019re about much more than simply fruit.
