Oliver Morin<\/a>‘s stellar 2021 Bourgogne Aligote\u0301.<\/p>\nYou can’t pick up a wine mag these days and not read an article on how Aligote\u0301 is literally having its moment in the sun: long considered Burgundy’s “other” white grape, Aligote\u0301 is now heralded as a more serious white with potential and pep, an affordable Burgundy that still delivers the goods.<\/p>\n
Morin’s Aligote\u0301 is the ‘Dore\u0301’ (golden) clone, a higher quality grape and one that gives more intense aromas and more complex flavors. Usually vinified in tank, this 2021 was aged shortly in large older (neutral) cask — another step up in texture and complexity. And yet it’s still a screaming deal for a white Burgundy wine!<\/p>\n

“Surprisingly ripe aromas of quince and pear lead to a light, silky texture on the palate to deliver a wine of balance and finesse. The grapes come from 2ha of 50-year-old vines in Chitry, near Chablis, planted in soils with hard Portlandian pebbles of a Kimmeridgian base. Fermentation was done in used 600-litre demi-muids on native yeasts with minimum intervention. Approachable now and perfect for current drinking.”
