Winemaker Charles Boigelot is the fourth generation of his family to champion the terroir treasures of the Burgundy village of Monthelie. Nestled between the ruddy elegance of Volnay and the nutty intensity of Meursault, Monthelie just may be the C\u00f4te de Beaune\u2019s best-kept secret, a source of mineral-rich whites and soulful reds in equal measure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With some 22 acres of excellent vineyards in Monthelie, Meursault and Volnay, Charles\u2013who took over winemaking duties from his father Eric in 2022\u2013is a young talent already making serious waves in greater Burgundy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Charles honed his skills at both Domaine Paul Pillot and neighboring Coche-Dury, following in the footsteps of his father, who did the same (and a good portion of the family\u2019s grapes for years were sold to this historic Meursault estate).\u00a0<\/p>\n

This family has long had its wine-stained fingers on the pulse of the C\u00f4te de Beaune. Charles\u2019 great-great-grandfather, with some five acres of land, was the first of the family to plant vines in Monthelie in 1918. From father to son, the family expanded its holdings in Monthelie, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard until Eric Boigelot, in the late 1990s, moved to new cellars to Meursault, just over the village border.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With 25 acres of vineyards cared for sustainably, Charles is ably following in the footsteps of his winemaking kin by crafting silky, expressive wines that deliver serious pleasure right out of the gate.<\/p>\n

FARMING & WINEMAKING<\/strong><\/p>\n

The family tends its 22 acres of vineyards in Monthelie, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard sustainably, and carries a certification HVE3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale), which ensures that vines and soils are cared for as naturally as possible, treatments are minimal and that biodiversity is protected.<\/p>\n

All grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, and fermentation is carried out on indigenous yeasts. Whites are fermented either in temperature-controlled tanks or French oak barrel, then aged in barrel and in tank. Reds are destemmed, fermented in tank and aged in barrel and tank. Wines are lightly filtered before bottling.<\/p>\n

Ancient Aligot\u00e9 vines, aged up to 100 years, from \u2018Les Durots\u2019 vineyard in Meursault, produce this lively and complex white Burgundy with white floral aromas and a bold citrus-driven palate with a zesty mineral streak.<\/p>\n
