Winemaker Jean Bernard and his family have long been stewards of another of Leynes\u2019 claims to fame: a charming 18th century ch\u00e2teau, built in a style popularized by Louis XIV. For local tourists, it\u2019s a perfect pairing: historic architecture and terroir-true wines.<\/p>\n

FARMING & WINEMAKING<\/strong><\/p>\n \u200bThe Bernard family tends some 50 acres of vines in and around the villages of Leynes and Saint-Verand, west of M\u00e2con in southern Burgundy. A majority of vines are Chardonnay, with just over two acres of Pinot Noir and Gamay, where some of the estate\u2019s oldest vines are tended in the appellation of Saint-Amour in Beaujolais.<\/p>\n Farming is sustainable, with cover crops planted between rows; the estate is certified under the “high environmental value” (Haute Valeur Environnementale, HVE) program in France. Grapes are fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks.
