Great Marks For 2019 Barraud at Wine Advocate

Aug 4, 2021

More stellar notes and solid scores from The Wine Advocate for Daniel et Julien Barraud, our long-time partners in the Maconnais. These organically raised, Burgundian Chardonnay wines are indeed benchmarks for quality in this beautiful region — and still represent extraordinary value for their excellence! All notes from William Kelley in the August 2021 Week 1 report (paywall) at The Wine Advocate.

“Long one of the Mâconnais’s leading estates, Daniel and Julien Barraud harvest their 8.5 hectares of vines by hand … The 2019 vintage at this address has turned out well in a rich, fleshy register: these are ripe, concentrated wines that wear their Mâconnais origins on their sleeves this year.” – William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

2019 Domaine Barraud Saint-Véran Les Pommards
Rich and fleshy, the 2019 Saint-Véran Les Pommards evokes notions of fresh bread, green orchard fruit, white flowers and praline. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, its ripe core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids.

2019 Domaine Barraud Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays
The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays delivers a generous bouquet of citrus peel, buttery pastry, vanilla pod, smoke and yellow orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it’s bright and layered, with excellent concentration and a long, saline finish. Like all Barraud’s 2019s, it’s a powerful, muscular wine, but for now everything is kept in check.

2019 Domaine Barraud Pouilly-Fuissé La Verchère Vieilles Vignes
The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Verchère Vieilles Vignes is rich and dramatic, bursting with aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit, peaches and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with a ripe core of fruit, succulent acids and an expansive finish, it’s a muscular, concentrated wine that is already very demonstrative.

2019 Domaine Barraud Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche
Aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, praline and white flowers introduce the 2019 Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that’s bright and precise. This has turned out nicely.
