Feb 3, 2021

From the most recent edition of Wine & Spirits (Feb 2021), with a focus on Valpolicella wines — featuring the biodynamic gems of our partner, Musella. Do share!

Musella 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella ‘Senza Titolo’
Fruit from 60-year-old, Demeter-certified vines produced this intriguing and densely concentrated Amarone. It combines flavors of baked plum and cherry with notes of molten chocolate and star anise in a suave, seamless wine, those flavors propelled by lively acidity that preserves the wine’s youthful vibrancy.

Musella 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella
This Amarone shows a bright core of sour-cherry flavor that expands to notes of apple skin, orange peel and gingery spice. The fresh fruit tones, taut tannins and dry finish make this a versatile match for grilled game or roast pork.

Musella 2016 Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore
“Delicacy” is not a word that jumps to mind for most Valpolicella Ripasso wines, but it applies here. The wine is fragrant with scents of red berries, herbs and orange peel, and those notes carry over to the palate in a seamless texture. The wine gains notes of soft tobacco and subtle spice on the way to a vibrant, smooth finish.
