“Another standout, the 2006 Brut Millesime is stellar. This is an especially broad, creamy Champagne built on textural richness. Lemon oil, white flowers, smoke, almonds and baked apple are some of the signatures…”
Our selections from the impressive 2014 vintage have just arrived in our temperature-controlled warehouse, and we couldn’t be more excited. In fact, if you consider yourself more a devotee of Burgundy than of Rhone wines, you should pay particular attention to this vintage and perhaps expand your horizons south. You will find much here to seduce…
“In fact, with their outstanding inner-mouth tension and powerful minerality, the vintage’s winners can be quite exhilarating. Some of the best 2013s remind me of the brilliant 2010s in their energy and saline minerality,” says Stephen Tanzer of this vibrant, exceptional vintage.
In May, our team visited Azienda Agricola Mustilli, an organic family estate in the medieval village of Sant’Agata dei Goti, inland from Naples in Campania. The family invited us to walk 50 feet underground into their 1,000-year-old, hand-carved wine cellar. This is what we saw.
Fred’s 2014s are scheduled to dock in mid-August, yet the rude reality of this truly delicious vintage is there’s very little to go around. For many of Fred’s premier and grand cru wines, we can count the cases we’ve been able to import on two hands. Yet this early call to reserve the wines you want is one that should be heeded: 2014 is a vintage to please equally those who enjoy Burgundy in its youth and those who don’t mind waiting a decade or so for time to work its magic.
Josh Raynolds of Vinous Media awarded significant scores to and lauded both of our rosé selections from Château de Pibarnon. The estate’s ‘Nuances’ in particular is worth attention: this amphora-fermented, 100% Mourvedre wine takes the intensity and age-ability of Pibarnon rosés to a whole new level.
