Aurore Dezat is the fourth generation of her winemaking family to tend the world-class vineyards of Sancerre, in the village of Sury-en-Vaux, Joined by her winemaking husband David Girard, this dynamic partnership maintains some 23 acres of prime terroir and crafts wines that showcase the region’s true flavors, as expressed through its chalky “terres blanches,” stony limestone “caillottes” and flint-rich “silex.”

Winemaker Éric Louis can follow his roots in Sancerre as far back as 1860, when his great-grandmother Pauline was an early pioneer by tending vines and bottling her own wines. Sauvignon Blanc has remained the family’s passion, with hillside vineyards to the southeast of Sancerre in Vinon.
The Cherrier family has been a trusted name in Sancerre since the late 1800s. Here in Chaudoux, north of the village of Sancerre, Sauvignon Blanc is equally in its element: soils are a refined mix of flint and chalk, a terroir marriage that makes the best Sancerre so vibrant.
Located between Angers and Nantes, this family-run estate in the petite village of La Pommeraye enjoys a particularly warm microclimate, which helps to push grapes to perfect ripeness, even in cooler years. This family estate on the banks of the Loire River was founded in 1994, bringing together three generations of “savoir faire” and honoring Anjou’s native grapes.
The Vacherons are without question Sancerre’s leading winemaking clan. From the family’s pioneering work in identifying and exploiting the region’s top terroirs to their leading position in biodynamic viticulture today, there are few if any artisans in Sancerre as exacting or as respected.
Of all our Loire selections, there are few wines that express the thirst-quenching kick of the region’s mineral-rich terroir better than does Jacky Preys’ Fié Gris “Terroir Pierre à Fusil.” In French, pierre à fusil means gunflint. Touraine was a center for gunflint production during the Napoleonic era. The region’s flint-rich soils infuse grapes with a vibrant, nervous energy that is translated as a whiff of smoke in the wine’s perfumes and in crisp and clean, citrus-inspired flavors.
The petite village of Sury-en-Vaux, northwest of Sancerre, is our secret source of extraordinarily character-rich Loire wines. Winemaker Jean-Marc Pastou for some 30 years has followed a singular calling, to make the most honest and terroir-true Sancerre his few acres will give.
